    Sports Fitness Program

Mahomet Chiropractic & Acupuncture Health Services

“I was playing baseball my sophomore year in college when I swung the bat and my back completely ‘went out.’  I was in so much pain that I couldn’t even walk more than one step in front of the other.  Luckily for me, one of my teammates told me to go see a Chiropractor and so I did.  Dr. Williams performed a thorough exam and told me what was going on with my body and how he could help.  What happened next was absolutely amazing to me and is why I went on to become a Chiropractor.  The doctor performed an adjustment to my spine and almost instantly my pain vanished!  I literally hopped off the table and walked out of his office.  I could not have been more thankful for what the Chiropractor did for me that day” (Daniel L. Walk, D.C., FASA, CGFI).

That injury on the baseball field came to me as a complete surprise.  As far as I could tell, I was in optimal physical health.  In the time following, I contributed my injury to always rotating in one direction.  This rotary motion (in a single direction) would occur hundreds of times a day everyday during practices.  Not only was I doing this when I was batting but I was doing it when I was throwing the ball as well.  In fact, I was doing the same thing in all the sports I most commonly played, including baseball, tennis, and golf.  This realization has led to the development of the Sports Fitness Program.

Today, I have been blessed as a U of I Sports Fitness Instructor, Kinesiologist, Chiropractor, and Titleist Fitness Instructor with the most recent research, knowledge, and skills to help such athletes and especially those in rotational sports like golf, baseball, softball, tennis, racquetball, and volleyball, to reach their potential.  The Sport’s Fitness Program at Walk Chiropractic & Acupuncture Center will help athletes from youth on and will lead them to optimal biomechanics for their sport.  In today’s level of athleticism and competition, this is absolutely necessary for not only performing at the elite level but also for preventing and rehabilitating from sport’s related injuries.

Proper biomechanics is the key to performing at elite levels and preventing injuries at the same time.  All athletes of upper body rotational sports generate power from their foundation (feet).  If performed properly, they will transfer this power in sequence from their feet and up through their legs, pelvis, torso, and out through their arms (and depending on the sport, through the club/ racket/bat).

Dr. Walk will perform a thorough history and physical examination to discover the athlete’s strengths as well as his/her weaknesses.  He will inform you or your child what is going on and how he can help (from specific stretches and exercises, to nutrition, physiotherapy, acupuncture, and/or chiropractic care).  He will also develop you or your child’s very own fitness program and personalized website.  The website will grant the athlete access to videos describing and demonstrating any and all stretches and/or exercises in your program.  Overall, Dr. Walk will help to find and remove any limiting factors to you or your child’s sport/s and will help to develop the strength and flexibility required for optimal biomechanics and performance.

“In sports you will have those who say, ‘you can’t do it’ or ‘it’s all in your head.’  Get rid of that mindset right now.  Even ¾ of the word ‘can’t’ says you ‘can.’  Most of the time there are simple limitations that need to be corrected but discovering those problems and knowing how to correct them is the key.  By addressing the real cause of the problem, Dr. Walk is able to help athletes perform at elite levels and prevent as well as rehab from injuries.” (Dr. Walk)
